I’m sharing some “Sunshine” with you today! You will find details below for my upcoming Sunshine Wishes class and a yummy recipe full of sunshine at the bottom of this post! I’m starting however, with some insight on waiting… for sunshine.
It’s been a challenging Summer for me to work on any projects that require using my hands. I’ve been dealing with a “trigger thumb” since early Spring. And of course it’s on my dominate right hand that I need everyday. I thought I was just overworking it and tried to give it some rest. It’s amazing how much we use our thumb. I can’t even begin to tell you how many things I have dropped… and broken in the last few months. I saw a specialist in the Spring who wanted to right away do surgery, but I’m hesitant as an artist since my hands are my livelihood and actually had to talk him into trying injections first. He flat out told me ,”It’s not going to work”. I heard my mom voice inside me shouting, “Well, not with that attitude!” It was one of the most painful experiences I’ve ever had… and I’ve had plenty to compare. And, no it did not help… at all. In fact I think it’s worse. Not the sunshine I was hoping for.
I finally got in to a another hand specialist just a couple weeks ago. I really appreciated this doctor’s way of listening to me and my fears. I found a glimmer of sunshine and hope in his approach and words. Encouraging words of healing. I received my second injection into the same joint, totally painless mind you. Thinking now the first doctor hit a nerve. Physically… and emotionally. So right after the injection I asked this doctor, “Now what?” And his reply was, “We wait… for four weeks for healing to take place.” So now I’m waiting. Have I mentioned how bad I am at waiting.
I’m so bad in fact I think the Lord allows these times in my life so I don’t even have the option but to wait . . . to be still . . . so I can hear His voice and allow time for healing. I had asked the doctor what I should do… apply ice, apply heat, splint it or exercise it. He told me to just wait. There’s that word again. I think the Lord is reminding me that sometimes it has nothing to do with what I do or don’t do. At times I’m called to just be still… listen for His quiet voice… and wait. For me sitting quiet and still can seem to be the hardest part… at least for a control freak. Ouch, did I just write that out loud?
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” ~Isaiah 40:31
Other words for wait = halt, rest, stay, on hold, trust, await, expectant, hope. Did you know that eagles are one of the few birds that soar. They spread their wings, let go and glide down as they catch air patterns that take them up to new heights. This soaring saves them so much energy as they rely on the wind currents to carry them. Wow! That makes me see this verse in a whole new light. Here I am flapping my wings vigorously trying to stay afloat, wasting so much energy trying to “figure out” what I’m suppose to do when all I needed to do was give up control and wait… rest… trust… hope in Him. I’m such a silly bird.
So, I’m learning what it means to wait. As far as my thumb goes, I have a few more weeks of waiting. If things don’t progress at that point we will discuss surgery as an option. In this time of waiting I’m praying and hoping for the healing power of the Lord to do His work. I’d prefer the healing to happen without surgery… but I’ll just have to wait… and see.
I’m slowly putting together classes to put back on my calendar. YAY! I know many of you have been waiting and hoping for these.

Also, sharing today – Sunshine. . . in a cake!!!! I had posted on social media this yummy cake and had a number of requests for the recipe. So here it is.
LEMON POUND CAKE
• I used a Duncan Hines “Lemon Supreme” Cake Mix.
Then mix in:
• 1 sm. pack of instant Lemon Pudding
• 4 lg. eggs
• cup water
• 1/3 cup oil
• 1/2 t lemon extract
• 1/2 t almond extract
Bake at 350 in a greased and floured bundt pan for about 50min.
I made the glaze on top with powder sugar, a little water and a squeeze of lemon juice and a touch of the extracts (optional).
Looks like a whole lot of sunshine there. Oh so yummy! If you’re on Instagram come follow me!

Thank you for sharing your insights Anita. We all tend to be “silly birds” flapping away, never noticing that it doesn’t work. I look forward to hearing about your post-injection follow-up. I can’t believe I totally forgot to ask how your thumb was at stamp camp.
I broke my right hand in a fall right before Thanksgiving last year and I’ve been in and out of the hospital with one thing after another, so I hear you. Been on a mission tonight and visited other Faith-bookers and leaving a little comment. It’s been an interesting journey — a lot of us out there–spreading the word! Hope your trigger finger is well and fine now. Waiting in patience is a hard things sometimes. Blessings! 🙂
